Our Commitment to Accessibility
Central to Balance’s ongoing commitment to helping real people from all walks of life achieve safe, effective and lasting weight loss results, Balance is dedicated to improving accessibility for people with visual impairments in the following ways.
Website Accessibility. To ensure those with visual impairments and other disabilities are able to use our website, Balance is dedicated to continually improving its accessibility. We are regularly updating our site to improve accessibility, where applicable, to become as accessible as possible for all users. The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 are acknowledged as the most comprehensive standard for accessibility. We are working toward improving accessibility on Balance.com via feasible and sustainable means, following the best practices and standards established by the Website Content Accessibility Guidelines. We are committed to continually improving accessibility despite limited guidance for websites as provided by the United States Justice Department and Americans with Disabilities Act itself. We look to the legislatures of both the states as well as the Federal government to provide additional clarity so as to best serve all of our website users with the most accessible experience possible.
Steps Taken to Improve Accessibility. Wherever possible, we strive to:
- Provide alternative text detail for images.
- Provide structural content tags to indicate headings and lists to assist page comprehension.
- Ensure site header area includes “skip to main content” links to allow users to skip over repetitive navigation elements.
- Ensure form elements used to collect information from users have labels so all users can utilize these forms.
- Continuously work to implement and improve WCAG 2.0 guidelines.
As part of our commitment to accessibility, we are continuously making changes to our site as well as devoting resources to promote compliance with applicable laws and guidelines. We have IT and marketing employees whose duties include promotion of accessibility, and we have engaged outside vendors and consultants to improve the quality and accessibility of our user experience for users of all abilities. We continue to look for ways to improve the customer experience.
Using a Screen Reader. We recommend using the most up-to-date version of any assistive screen reader technology as well as web browser. This will help to ensure a best possible experience free from compatibility or other issues of a technical nature. We use and recommend NVDA, an open source, free tool that leverages intuitive controls and fast, simple functionality.
Telephone Support. Our team is ready and available to assist people with visual impairments with a variety of tasks. We’re happy to read documents aloud, help with navigation of the website, assist in answering questions about Balance’s products and services, and assist customers in placing orders.
